Gymly

Gymly is a white-label gym platform used by gyms to manage memberships. They wanted to build a member app for the gyms' members to reduce drop-offs. I designed the core member experience covering activity tracking, class discovery and booking, check-in, and engagement loops. This was a real project that Gymly brought us as a challenge during Dribbble's Product Design Course.

Challenge

People often buy gym memberships only to drop-off after a while due to low motivation, unclear value perception, and difficulty maintaining consistent workout habits.

Goal

Design an app that enables as many gym members as possible to be active, go to the gym, and engage more with the activities.

Approach

I focused on three pillars to support early engagement and retention.

  • Early value: Key information surfaced before onboarding is complete. learn about classes and trainers, and get immediate access before onboarding.
  • Actions & feedback: Easy access to schedule, class booking and cancellation, and activity-based stats that give members a clear picture of their progress.
  • Social engagement: See which friends are attending classes, invite them, and follow your favourite trainers. Consistency feels less like a solo effort.

    Outcome

Delivered a functional prototype demonstrating low-friction onboarding, clear progress communication, and engagement through individual and social activity.

    Testing Insights

I conducted a usability test to evaluate if the app is intuitive, if users understand the main features, and are able to complete specific tasks. Based on the feedback and the testing results:

    • Users liked the concept and found it serves its purpose: motivating (plan with friends), convenient (easy book and cancel), and easy to use.
    • Some improvements in layout, UI elements, and microcopy are needed to add clarity in specific task flows.
    • Goal setting and gamification features are not explored in depth in this version and didn't grab users' attention enough.
